Beloved Community Leader and Advocate

Susan O. Jaffe, a dedicated volunteer, community leader, and advocate for city planning and non-profit organizations, passed away March 1, 2025 in Philadelphia, PA. She was a life-long resident of Philadelphia and devoted her life to public service and civic engagement especially for community, educational, women’s, and Jewish causes.

Susan served for many years as a member of and Vice Chair of the Zoning Board of Adjustment for the City of Philadelphia, where her expertise in city planning, historic preservation, and community relations left a lasting impact on Philadelphia’s built environment.

She earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master’s degree from Temple University. Susan’s passion for civic involvement led her to serve on numerous boards, including the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, Moore College of Art & Design, and the University of Pennsylvania Trustees’s Council of Penn Women, and Chair of the Board of Trustees for St. Peter’s School.

Susan was also deeply involved in Jewish causes, including serving on the National Board of Governors for the American Jewish Committee, the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, the Feinstein Center of American Jewish History at Temple University, and Chair of the Board of Directors for the American Jewish Committee of Philadelphia.

Susan will be remembered for her unwavering commitment to public service, her passion for historic preservation, and her dedication to improving the lives of those around her. She leaves behind a legacy of leadership and generosity.

Susan was devoted wife of the late Paul Jaffe; loving mother of Sharon Weinberg Messerman (Michael) and Dr. Bruce Weinberg (Julie) adored grandmother of Justin, Ethan, Julia, Ari & Elizabeth. Susan was a dedicated volunteer, community leader, and advocate for city planning and non-profit organizations.

Relatives and friends are invited to graveside services, Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at 1pm at Montefiore Cemetery, 600 Church Road, Jenkintown, PA

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Susan’s memory may be made to Smith Memorial Playground & Playhouse or a charity of the donor’s choice.
