Sylvia David
Wilmington - Loving wife and mother, Sylvia David (née Skolnick), age 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 29, 2018 surrounded by her family and devoted caregivers.
Sylvia was born and raised in Philadelphia. She married the love of her life -- Israel A. David -- in 1951. The two spent 67 years together, initially in Madison, Wisconsin, and then in Wilmington, Delaware, where they raised their children Bernard and Joanie.
Sylvia adored music and art: she sang, played the piano, enjoyed opera, painted, sculpted, and was expert on the potter's wheel. Her famous cooking and recipes will always be remembered by members of her family and the community.
Sylvia worked initially as a secretary at a real estate company in Philadelphia, and later, after her children were grown, as an employment counselor at Snelling and Snelling, where she got a job for nearly everyone who came through the door. Later, she lent a hand in helping her son start a business by assuming the role of Office Manager.
Sylvia will be missed by her family and friends for her kindness and ever present willingness to help others.
She is survived by her husband, Israel; her children, Bernard and Joanie; her daughter-in-law Lisa; and her four grandchildren: Sam, David, Emily, and Michael.
The family would like to give special thanks to the wonderful staff at Bayada Assistive Care and VITAS Healthcare who gave loving care to Sylvia over the past several years and have truly become part of the David family.
Contributions in her memory may be made to Hadassah, 1518 Walnut St. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19102.
