Sylvia "Sunny" Zubrow

Sylvia “Sunny” Zubrow (Nee Abelson), age 102 of Rydal, PA passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026; devoted wife of the late I. Kenneth Zubrow; loving mother of Alan Zubrow (Marlene), Marc Zubrow (Anne) and Robert Zubrow (Mai); adoring grandmother of Eric Zubrow (Lynn), Michael Zubrow (Michelle), Jamie Gilson (Pat), Katie Zubrow, Keith Zubrow (Lindsey) and Stephanie Zubrow; proud great-grandmother to Grace, Sloane, Julian and Sunny. Sunny is also survived by her sister Helen Berman and was pre-deceased by her other sister, Dorothy Levin.

Upon completion of nursing school, Sunny joined the Army Nursing Corps during WWII, where she was a First Lieutenant. After the war, she served as a Head Nurse on the Pediatric Floor at Jewish Hospital. Sunny met Ken Labor Day Weekend, 1947 and married in 1948, after which she raised her 3 sons. She worked as a school nurse, graduated from Temple University with a BS degree and from Arcadia with a master’s degree. Sunny taught nursing at Einstein for many years as well as working as a floor nurse.

After retirement, she kept busy volunteering with various organizations; Jewish Family & Children’s Services, Israeli Army and hospice care. However, her 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren were the apples of her eye. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for them.

Relatives and friends are invited to Graveside services, Friday, May 15, 2026, 10:30am at Har Nebo Cemetery, 6061 Oxford Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19149. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sunny’s memory may be made to Mazon, Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia or a charity of the donor’s choice.
