Tatyana "Tanya" Finkel

Tatyana “Tanya” Finkel, born on May 27, 1938, Kharkov, Ukraine, passed away on November 25, 2025. Her passing, coming so soon after the loss of her beloved husband, Yevgeny, stands as a testament to the deep and enduring love they shared throughout their long life together.

Tanya lived a life marked by grace, intellect, and quiet elegance. Born into a lineage of healers—with both of her parents serving as pediatricians—she was raised in an environment that deeply valued education, service, and compassion. She carried these values throughout her life. Tanya began her professional journey as a teacher of architecture and civil engineering in Technical Vocational School, sharing her appreciation for structure, creativity, and design. Later, she brought her discipline and intelligence to her work as a civil engineer, contributing to projects with care, precision, and a deep sense of responsibility.

Always fashionable, poised, and impeccably put together, Tanya carried herself with the timeless glamour of a classic film icon. Her beauty was matched only by her gentle spirit. Her patience, warmth, and kindness made everyone around her feel safe, welcomed, and understood. A significant chapter of Tanya’s life began when her older sister, Lida, moved to America. Inspired by the new possibilities and wanting to be close to her sister, Tanya and Yevgeny brought all family from Ukraine to the United States. This act of courage and love shaped a brighter future for generations to come. In America, she attended English classes, successfully built a new life, and continued to nurture the rich traditions and values that defined her. Her home quickly became a place of comfort and connection. Tanya was an extraordinary cook, known for bringing family and friends together around her table. Her meals, deeply rooted in love, tradition, and warmth, became cherished rituals. Food was her way of nurturing others, and her kitchen was truly the heart of her home.

Above all, she was a devoted mother to her son, Peter, and a steadfast partner to Yevgeny, creating a home filled with peace and stability. Her legacy of love lives on in her son Peter Finkel and his wife Julia Pavlova; her granddaughter Alexandra Bystock and her husband Josh Bystock; and her great-grandchildren, Max and Benjamin, who brought her immeasurable joy.

Tanya often said, “C’est la vie,” but the love she leaves behind is forever. Those words, so reflective of her grace and acceptance, now carry even deeper meaning. Her legacy lives on in the beauty she created, the love she gave, and the countless lives she touched. Her spirit will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
